i've loved tamagotchis since 2007-ish and have collected a ton of info on them, and even a little physical collection! i'm very partial to vintage releases (1996-1998)

angelgotchis are my favorite release! i love the cute characters, the theme, and the shells! i used to spend hours as a kid on mimitchi.com, looking over the chart and feature pages, dreaming of owning one. after having a broken angel for years, i finally have a working one!! my fav character is pukuten

morinos are another one of my favorite vintage releases, although i haven't yet played with one! i love the bug characters and the unique features with the cocoon and different eggs. i've read logs for the morino countless times.. i'd love to own one some day! my fav character is koganetchi

the first tamagotchi to introduce marriage and generations! i love the variety of characters and the designs!! i'd love to get the smoke/clear set one day, although i think all of the shells are nice! my fav characters are hyurutchi and piroriroritchi

arukotchi is quite different from the previous tamas! she's a pedometer pet, and the goal isn't to raise her, but to help her get a date! this used to be my holy grail tama.. it still kind of is even though it's impractical LOL. my fav character is arukotchi herself! (although honorable mentions to puu and pii lol)

one of the first of what would be many collaboration tamagotchis! it's based on actress tamao nakamura, and it's gameplay is revolved about not only raising the tama to adulthood, but also making them a successful actor/ess! this tama is a bit underrated in my opinion, i find the gimmicks really cool! up until last year the growth on this one was a complete mystery to me. the community has made so many advancements!! my fav character is baradorutchi

almost all of my favorites are vintages, but this is an exception! this was my first tama ever as a kid, back in 2007/8! i ended up giving it to someone on my bus who begged me for it and i still regret it LOL. the v4.5 is such a good release for the connection era, it's balanced between having enough features to keep things fresh, but being simple enough to not be a chore! i love the ura characters too, i wish the came back more often!! my fav characters are tenpatchi (first ever adult!) and ura zukyutchi
